Busy, busy, busy

Sorry it’s been a long while since I’ve posted, but I’ve been really busy.

I had some overtime at work, so I was pretty tired last week and didn’t have the energy to even turn on the computer. I’m not complaining about the OT or the job, btw. Still love the job.

I was also too worried. My sister, her kids and her boyfriend all got COVID. I won’t go into detail on how they got it — suffice it to say it was not their fault at all. Her kids are doing OK. My sister got it really bad, and her boyfriend too. I was terrified for all of them for days and days.

Wear a mask, people. Socially distance. Don’t go out unless you have to. I don’t understand why this is so difficult. You wear a shirt and shoes when businesses call for that, but a mask? OH GOD NO, A MASK IS JUST THE WORST THING IN THE UNIVERSE MY FREEDOMS OH MY GOD WEARING A CLOTH ON MY FACE FOR 15 MINUTES WHILE I GO INTO WALMART IS JUST THE BIGGEST INCOVENIENCE IN THE HISTORY OF MANKIND. That’s how the government controls you! What? The government already controls a crapton of stuff you do every dang day.

But wearing a mask to protect other people from getting a virus that can literally kill them? OH MY GOD THAT IS JUST THE WORST THING TO THINK OF ANYONE BESIDES MYSELF. I would rather wear a mask and find out later that it really did do nothing (which won’t ever be the case) than not wear a mask and find out I passed on a deadly virus and killed people because of it. PEOPLE ARE LITERALLY DYING BECAUSE OTHERS DON’T GIVE A CRAP ABOUT ANYONE BUT THEMSELVES.

WEAR A MASK AND STOP BEING MORONS. OK, rant over.

On another note, my car battery died last week as well, and I have no idea how to jumpstart a car and am honestly too nervous to even try. So, I had to get my car towed and fixed. Ended up that it was the battery and the water pump was busted. So, that set me back $500. But I got my car towed immediately — I called, dude said half and hour, showed up in 20 minutes, towed my car. Fastest tow I’ve ever gotten.

We had a tree cut down and three trees trimmed this week, too. These folks do a great job and are super reasonably priced. Their only drawback is that they take forever to actually get here to do the job. (We’ll come in three weeks! And maybe two months later is when they actually get here.) But the price is so good, we don’t mind waiting. It’s about a third or half of what every other place quoted us each time we’ve used them.

On a more fun note, my mom and I made Christmas cookies this week. Or should I say my mom made Christmas cookies this week, and I helped as much as I could. She is baking two more tomorrow, for a total of eight kinds (I think that is right): fudge, peanut butter kiss cookies, icing sugar cookies, Welsh cookies, cookie press sugar cookies, rice krispie date balls and apricot cookies.

Let’s see, I did not help with the butter balls. I mixed the rice krispies and help roll them. I stirred the fudge on the stovetop (really difficult), I pressed about half of the cookie press cookies and decorated them, I iced the icing sugar cookies and I didn’t help with the Welsh cookies. I did clean the kitchen a bunch of times to help my mom out. Baking is exhausting!

I did finish my Christmas shopping. I wanted to get more, but unfortunately, that car repair bill kind of killed that budget. But it was nice to be able to pay for the repair without worrying about whether I could afford it. It was also wonderful that I wasn’t stranded anywhere and that my mom could drive me over to pick up my car. I didn’t have to wait at the shop or hitch a ride with the tow truck guy, like every other time in the past where I’ve had to get my car towed.

But I did finish my Christmas shopping. Weird thing is that this year, for the most part, the recipients already got their gifts from me. The only gifts that need to be opened are the gifts for my niece and nephew and a couple of small things for my mom. I already bought and installed a new curtain/curtain rod for our sliding glass door. I also found a Tupperware container on eBay that is exactly the same as this other one she had, but the one she had was broken. She uses it to hold the fudge, so that’s why I already gave it to her. She was so excited to get it!

I wrote out some Christmas cards, too, but then I realized that I don’t have a lot of people’s addresses. Some folks have moved, and some I’ve just never had. So, if you don’t get a card from me, I swear I’m not ignoring you. I just don’t have your address! If you want to PM your address to me on FB Messenger or email it to me at leolily11@gmail.com, that would be great. It always feels weird to me for some reason to ask people what their address is. Sounds almost stalker-y or something. I swear I won’t egg your house.

Oh, yes, in case you didn’t figure it out from the pile of Christmas cookie photos, I am putting my diet on hold until January. Don’t worry, I am still exercising. But there is no way on earth that I won’t eat cookies that my mom baked. And that’s all I’m going to indulge in.

OK, I think I’ve rambled on for long enough today. Until next time!
