Howdy, boos and ghouls. I’m sorry I missed posting yet again yesterday. I have been so insanely busy that I barely have time to blink. Today, I’m going to share one of my scariest personal ghost stories. (Disclaimer: If you don’t believe in ghosts, stop reading and don’t comment on how you think it’s nonsense.)
This all happened when I was in my 20s. I was staying the night at my sister’s house, and I was set up in the living room. I got exactly zero hours of sleep that night. First, I felt a major adrenaline rush. Then I got cold and clammy. Then, for no reason, I felt panic, impatience, betrayal, sadness and just a whole hodgepodge of negative emotions.
Then footsteps. Thunk. Thunk. Thunk. Slow but heavy, like boots. The noise was coming from the kitchen. Then I could hear cupboards opening and closing. More footsteps. Then they stopped. Then pacing footsteps. Thunk. Thunk. Thunk.
My heart was racing at a million beats a minute. I could barely breathe. I was petrified. Thunk. Thunk. Thunk. Those footsteps lasted for so long. Eventually, I had to pee. The bathroom was in view of the kitchen. I ran into the bathroom, practically crying. I ran back into the living room. It was the middle of the night. I had to get out of there!
But my car was blocked in. I didn’t want to wake anyone. So, I sat in the living room all night, trembling with fear. And now and then I would still hear the footsteps. Thunk. Thunk. Thunk.
Finally, finally, FINALLY it was light out, and I was eventually able to get my car out and drive far, far, far away, never to return to that house. Thankfully, my sister didn’t live there for long, because EEK.
Bonus: Now, folks don’t believe me when I tell this one, and I can’t blame them. It’s so completely ridiculous. But hey, as long as I’m sharing, here goes: In the house I’m in now, when I was around 18 years old, I was sitting in my room at night, reading. It was 2 a.m. (How do I know? Because if I sleep upstairs in that room, every night at 2 a.m. I wake up to a presence in the room. If I’m still awake, I can feel him walk in.)
So, it was 2 a.m., and the feeling in the room changed. I looked up, and there he was. The main guy who haunts this house. He was standing there, staring at me. I could see his face and shoulders, and his body sort of faded as it got further down. I couldn’t do anything more than stare at him.
Now for the ridiculous part: He came straight at me. This face that was across the room zoomed at me so quickly that I had no time to plan a reaction. So, my reaction was to slap him. Yeah. That’s right. Slap. A. Ghost. I slapped at air, obviously, and ducked under my covers and yelped. Then I peaked out, and he was gone. And then I did not sleep that night. And of all the ghost experiences I’ve had, that’s the one that no one believes. So, even if you don’t believe it, I hope you enjoyed it.
Until next time!
