Howdy, folks. I have now officially streamed twice on Twitch. I hope I can keep it up. I am going to lose my job at the end of the year, and the job market is so competitive right now. I really hope that I can make at least some money at some point on Twitch.
I am really worried about what I’m going to do for employment. The pandemic has really made finding a job extremely difficult, and it’s limited me on what I can do. I would love to be able to go to an office and work, but I absolutely have to have a remote job due to my autoimmune condition. Well, everyone else wants that too. I’ve never had to work so hard to get a job, and I’m grateful that I got my other jobs without too much stress.
My first job I got via journalismjobs.com. After college, I posted my resume there. Just a few weeks later, The News & Advance in Lynchburg, Va., actually called me. That in itself was really cool. And then I had my first job.
When I decided to move closer to home, I quickly found a job in Johnson City, Tenn. I think I must have been the only applicant, because they didn’t even see my design samples — I sent them, but they didn’t go through, apparently. So, I got that job fairly quickly and easily. I had only interviewed at one other place, but they were going to pay me less than what I was making, and that already wasn’t much.
And when I got fed up with how horribly I was being treated at the Johnson City job, I went on journalismjobs.com, saw a posting for a job at The Island Packet in Bluffton, S.C. and applied. And after a four-hour test, I had the job. I saw the job opening on a Friday, and the very next Friday I was offered the job. Again, easy employment.
And this job, I was super lucky in that it became available pretty much right after I moved here. So, again, fairly easy employment.
But now, I’m screwed. I can’t find anything. My job is so specialized, that I’m not qualified to do much else. I’ve been doing some training on Illustrator to build up my design experience, but I’m a newspaper designer, and I’m not sure if I’d be good at other kinds of design. I am completely terrified, especially at the prospect of losing my health insurance.

So far, I streamed Fall Guys and the classic Wolfenstein 3D, which was a lot of fun. I will probably focus on retro games, as those are the ones I am actually OK at. I am straight up terrible at newer games, hahaha.
