Howdy, folks. I’ve been busy as a bee since yesterday. The title of this blog is probably a little more dramatic than what I’ve actually been dealing with, but I found a bee’s nest yesterday. I am OK so far.
My bee paranoia finally paid off. So many times, I will see a bee fly out of a hole or whatever, and think “Is there a nest there?” And there never is. Until yesterday. I was sitting on the back porch, when I saw a bee fly away from an old birdhouse lying on the porch. “Hmmmmm, bee’s nest? No, it’s just a bee.” Then another one flew outta there, an I leaped up and ran in the house.
So, I left the door to the house open for an escape route and was going to hit the birdhouse with a broom to test to bee sure there was a nest. So, I knocked it with the broom, ran into the house and slammed the door. And I couldn’t beelieve it! SO MANY BEES. I had never really seen a swarm of bees before, but eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeek! (It was yellowjackets, by the way, not honeybees.)

Look at this stinging pile of horror. Imagine it times a bajillion. Or at least that’s how many it felt like there were in the nest I found.
So, I got the bug spray, and I sprayed. So many angry bees. Then I let the swarm die down, and I got brave and knocked the birdhouse with the broom to get the hole facing out. And then, over the course of a few hours, I would let the swarm die down, then spray a little more. The one time I ran screaming inside, I decided it would be great to kick the door, so now I have three damaged toes.
Today, there were only a couple bees left, so I’m going to work on getting that birdhouse in the garbage. Wish me luck on that. Hopefully tomorrow I won’t bee writing about getting stung by yellowjackets.
As for trying to get some things done during my vacation week, yesterday I got my car inspected and started cleaning out the storage room I mentioned yesterday. But I got really, really cold yesterday and tired, and I lost all ambition. But I am hoping to get something significant accomplished today.
Until next time!
